Free spins are a bonus format, not a payout
A free spin looks like a small cash prize. At BitStarz it is not one. The operator's bonus terms put everything generated by free spins into the bonus column, carrying a wagering requirement rather than arriving as withdrawable cash: "Any winnings generated from free spins will be awarded with a wagering requirement of 40 (forty)" (bonus terms, clause 2.3). That single sentence moves a spin award out of the cash column, and every rule below follows from it.
The practical consequence is that the number on the promotion banner and the number you can withdraw are two different numbers. The gap between them is set by four rules: two clocks, one ceiling and one deposit gate. This page works through each in the order a player actually meets them, and names the clause behind every figure so you can check it against the operator's own page rather than take it from here.
Rule one: the multiple, and what it multiplies
Forty times is the standard multiple across the operator's bonus book: clause 3.4 states that all bonuses, unless otherwise specified, need to be wagered 40 times before the funds can be withdrawn. Clause 1.2 sets it for free and registration bonuses and states the base explicitly: "The wagering requirements for free and registration bonuses are forty (40) times the bonus sum awarded to you, unless stated otherwise in the supplemental terms and conditions." The base is the bonus sum, not your deposit and not your total balance.
For a spin award, the bonus sum is whatever the spins produce. So the arithmetic runs from the winnings, not from the spin count. If a set of no-deposit spins returns 20 EUR, the requirement is 800 EUR of turnover before anything can be withdrawn. If it returns 200 EUR, the requirement is 8,000 EUR. The spin count on its own tells you nothing about the size of the task, and you cannot know the winnings figure until the spins have been played.
Wagering is not restricted to the bonus balance either. Clause 3.22 states that wagering with both the bonus money and your deposited cash counts towards the requirement, so a deposit made after the spins are credited can help clear them, provided the bonus is still active and the rules in the second half of this page are respected.
Rule two: two one-day clocks, and they are sequential
Free spins run on the shortest expiry in the bonus book. Clause 3.7 sets the general position — bonuses that are part of the Welcome Package are valid for 7 days, and "all other bonuses (unless otherwise stated) will expire after 24 hours from being issued" — and clauses 2.4 and 2.5 then set a tighter, two-stage clock specifically for spins.
The first clock starts when the spins are credited: "To activate your free spins you must access and open the game within 1 day of them being credited, otherwise they will expire" (clause 2.4). Opening the game is the activation event, not playing it. The second clock starts after activation: "Once your free spins have been activated you must complete all game rounds within 1 days otherwise they will expire" (clause 2.5).
Two details are worth holding on to. The clocks are sequential rather than overlapping, so the practical window is a day to open the game and then a further day to finish every round — at most two days, starting from the moment the spins land, not from the moment you notice them. And clause 2.5 reads "within 1 days", a typo in the operator's own text that does not change the limit but is worth quoting accurately if you ever have to raise it with support. The terms provide no reinstatement route for spins that expire.
Rule three: on no-deposit spins the payout is capped, and the excess is forfeited
This is the rule most players meet after they have already won. Clause 1.1 caps what will be paid out from a bonus or free spins received "for free, without any deposit being required", and it names the programmes it covers: the free spins upon registration, Weekly Free Spins Drops, Second Chance Spins and the Friday Loyalty Bonus, with an exception for VIP players who have been placed on a VIP Cashback Deal.
The caps are per currency: 100 EUR/USD/USDT, 150 CAD/AUD/NZD, 1,000 NOK, 0.361 BCH, 1.677 LTC, 0.041 ETH, 1,237 DOGE, 10,000 JPY or 0.00123 BTC. Then comes the sentence that does the damage — "Any winnings exceeding this amount will be forfeited" — and the clause closes the obvious loophole behind it. After the wagering requirement has been met, funds stemming from the bonus "will remain subject to the maximum withdrawal limit", and winnings above the cap that are won through further play after clearing the bonus are forfeited as well.
So a no-deposit spin award has two ceilings rather than one: the 40x multiple, and a hard cash ceiling that turnover does not raise. Note carefully what clause 1.1 does not cover. It is drafted for bonuses and spins received without a deposit, so on its own wording it does not impose the same cap on spins attached to a deposit-funded bonus, and the terms state no separate maximum for those. That is a gap in the published terms, not a promise that no cap exists.
Rule four: nothing leaves the account until you deposit
The fourth rule decides whether the first three matter at all. Clause 1.2 states that for registration bonuses, extra spins, free spins and free bonuses that require no deposit, "no winnings at all may be withdrawn or transferred until you have transferred at least 20 EUR/USD/CAD/AUD/NZD/USDT, 200 NOK, 3000 JPY, 0.072 BCH, 0.335 LTC, 247 DOGE, 0.008 ETH, or 0.00025 BTC (or currency equivalent) into your player account."
The same clause adds a second, independent condition: no winnings accrued in connection with any free bonus may be withdrawn or transferred until the wagering requirements have been met. Both must be satisfied. Clearing the spins without depositing leaves the winnings sitting in the account; depositing without clearing the turnover leaves them as bonus funds. Neither condition substitutes for the other.
It is worth setting that gate against the operator's ordinary deposit floor. The payments page publishes a general minimum Bitcoin deposit of 0.0001 BTC, while clause 1.2 sets the threshold that releases no-deposit winnings at 0.00025 BTC — two and a half times higher. That comparison is mine rather than the operator's: the two figures are published on different pages and neither cross-references the other. But it is the clearest way to see that the deposit needed to unlock a no-deposit bonus is deliberately set above the smallest deposit the cashier will accept.
The secondary rules that can still void the spins
Four further rules sit behind the main four, and any of them can undo an award that would otherwise clear.
The bet cap. Clause 3.10 sets the maximum allowable bet while a bonus is active at 5 EUR/USD/CAD/AUD/NZD/USDT or 0.00006 BTC, and extends the cap to double-up wagers made after a round is complete and to in-game bonus features that can be purchased, such as bonus buys. Raising stakes to chase the 40x faster is the most direct way to lose the bonus.
Game contribution and the jackpot exclusion. Clause 3.5 states that table games, live games, instant-win games, lotteries and bingo "typically contribute 5%" towards wagering requirements, and that games with progressive jackpots or accumulating mechanics are excluded from contributing at all. Clause 3.17 adds that bonus rounds and free spins do not qualify for jackpot bonuses; only real money rounds do.
One offer at a time, and the small-balance forfeit. Clause 3.12.1 states that only one promotional offer can be claimed at a time, with an exception for Bonuz Mania, and that deposit bonuses cannot be stacked — so a player holding spins should not assume a separate deposit bonus will run alongside them. Clause 3.25 forfeits the bonus if the account balance falls below 0.10, which matters when spins are played down to a near-zero balance before the requirement is met. And no-deposit free spins carry their own country-exclusion list in clause 1.6, separate from the restricted-countries list in the main terms.
What the operator does not publish
Three absences matter when pricing a spin award, and they are absences rather than facts that are merely hard to find.
There is no slot contribution figure. Clause 3.5 gives 5% for table, live, instant-win, lottery and bingo games and excludes progressive and accumulating games, but states no contribution percentage for slots or video slots. Slots are where free spins are normally played, so the single most useful weighting figure for a spin award is the one the page does not print. Do not assume slots contribute in full: the page does not say so, and only the operator can settle it.
There is no cap stated for deposit-funded spins. Clause 1.1 is drafted for awards received without a deposit. The terms publish no maximum payout for free spins attached to a deposit bonus, so a player should not assume a ceiling exists — or that one does not.
There is no retrievable current offer. The promotions page and the homepage are client-side rendered; a fetch of both on 2026-10-17 returned no offer content, so the current spin count, the eligible games and any offer-specific expiry could not be read from a first-party page. This page therefore explains the rules that govern a spin award and deliberately states no current promotion. Third-party sites publish specific welcome-package figures; none of them is the operator, and none is repeated here.
One further point worth knowing: the bonus terms carry no version stamp. Only clause 12.1 of the general terms is dated, at 25 June 2025. The bonus terms can be amended in place without the change being visible in the document itself, which is why every figure above carries its clause number and the date and time it was read.
How to judge a spin award in two minutes
Work in this order, because each step can zero the value of the next one.
First, establish whether a deposit is required to release the winnings at all, and if it is, find the gate in clause 1.2 and decide whether you intend to meet it. Second, find out what the spins' winnings are, not how many spins there are — the 40x applies to the winnings. Third, note both one-day clocks and check they fit your next two days, because the window starts when the spins are credited. Fourth, check whether the award is a no-deposit one, because if it is, clause 1.1's per-currency cap applies and no amount of turnover raises it. Fifth, confirm the bet cap and the game weighting before you start staking, since both are far easier to respect before the first bet than after it.
None of this makes a spin award worthless. It makes the value knowable, which is a different thing. A no-deposit award capped at 100 EUR is still 100 EUR if you clear it — the point is to know that is the ceiling before you play, rather than to discover it when you ask for the withdrawal.
